Firstly kiln drying provides consistency meaning that every log load you buy whatever time of year it has a moisture content of 20% or below. Being consistently dry means it will light easily, burn clean and efficiently and most of all provide maximum heat output. By burning cleanly this means your stove glass won’t turn black and there should be no excess soot or tarring of your chimney. Air drying or seasoning takes a large amount of time and will never be as low in moisture as wood that has been kiln dried.
Our logs are dried in our environmentally friendly biomass kiln using a small efficient log gasification boiler to power the kiln which is fuelled by waste wood such as off cuts making us here at ALL FIRED UP carbon neutral. The kiln also reaches 70 degrees centigrade removing all trace of wood boring insects and sterilising the logs.

Kiln dried logs carry a higher price than traditional air dried logs due to the higher efficiency and quality that they offer, so much so that one kiln dried log can provide the same amount of heat as 2-3 regular seasoned logs. This is where the value of true kiln dried logs are. The reason less kiln dried logs are required in comparison to seasoned logs to produce the same amount of heat is because a great deal of energy which is released during combustion is simply wasted in evaporating the moisture content of the log.
